Busy winter season for NF Scouts
by staff correspondent

NORTH FORK - This past winter has been a busy one for Boy Scout Troop 357.
Late November found Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cubs, their families and residents of the community cutting Christmas trees for the annual North Fork Scout fund Christmas tree sale.
Tree sales progressed through most of December, and in January, the Scouts enjoyed a day of miniature golf and pizza at Blackbeard's in Fresno.
A trip to the snow above Shaver Lake, followed by a night of camping near O'Neals, was February's activity, and in March the troop will take a three-day trip to Magic Mountain and Venice Beach.
Monthly activities are scheduled throughout the year. At Scout meetings, Scouts learn first aid, map and compass use, knots and lashing, and other skills.
Weekend activities provide an opportunity for Scouts to practice camping and cooking skills, as well as use of map and compass.
Boys between the ages of 11 and 18, or 10-1/2 and going into the sixth grade are eligible to become Scouts.
Troop 357 meets every Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Scout Building in North Fork.
Information: Scoutmaster Dave Smith, 877-2186; Vern Tallmon, 877-7840; or Walt Tuttle, 877-4408.
